Vegan options: Loughborough
Eating out as a vegan is known to be incredibly tricky, but recently more and more places seem to be more accommodating for dietary requirements. I wasn't vegan before I started uni, so I've had to work out good places and options throughout the year. This obviously is nowhere near a definitive list but a lot of the places mentioned will be available across the country and could be useful wherever you are!
1. Wetherspoons (In Loughborough: Amber Rooms / Moon and Bell)
Spoons have been mentioned a lot recently for introducing multiple vegan options on their menu. These include a curry, 5 bean chilli and a superfood pasta. These are straight-up vegan, but other options can be changed to get rid of unwanted dairy products (for example, the burrito with 5 bean chilli is vegan if you ask for it without sour cream and cheese!)
3. Nando's
You wouldn't think the place known for serving chicken would be an ideal place when you don't eat meat but remarkably they do have vegan options! Their website isn't very useful for determining this; there aren't really any inherently vegan meals straight off the bat but with adjusting it's possible. At a glance, the mixed leaf salad seems to be the only suitable option along with hummus, chips and garlic bread as sides. However, the veggie burger without mayonnaise is vegan, as is the portabello mushroom without halloumi or mayo. Their salads can be made vegan if asked for without dressing/cheese too!
4. Dolcino
Again, an ice cream parlour doesn't sound like the place to go as a vegan but trust me! I went in hoping they did sorbet (they did, three different flavours including mango which looked amazing) but it turns out they did VEGAN ICE CREAM!
I don't know if this was a one off occasion or a new thing but either way it was great! To my knowledge they also have a store in the Nottingham area.

2. Urban Eat (Brand, sold in shops across the Uni)
The roots range has 5 (five!) different vegan options for when you're out and need to eat lunch on the go. I haven't seen these sold anywhere except the Union Shop and the PO on campus, but that's not to say other places don't stock them. The varieties are a gluten free falafel wrap, harissa falafel wrap, chickpea and spinach sandwich, onion bajhi on malted bread and bombay spiced veggie wrap.
