My Cruelty Free Makeup Routine

Following on from my post about vegan hair products, another thing that's not really talked about as much when going vegan is makeup. The discussion about cruetly-free make up has got louder within recent years, with a lot more people opting for brands that don't test their products on animals.

However, a confusing concept is that cruelty-free makeup ISN'T inherently vegan. So, just because a product isn't tested on animals, it doesn't mean it doesn't contain animal product. Once you keep this in mind finding products becomes much easier!

That being said, it's also true vice-versa - some brands will market their products as vegan when they are known to test on animals (looking at you, Loreal) so be careful!

In terms of finding brands, I found RaeLikesFroot's guides very useful! Also, many brand websites now often label their products as vegan, or have a filter on searches so you can narrow it down to suitable products.

After a while of trying different combinations of products, I've found a set that works for my routine and that I like. Though, this is in no way a makeup tutorial! My makeup skills are basically non existent; this guide is to share the products I've found in case it's useful to someone else!

Foundation: Revolution Conceal and Define Full Coverage Foundation, £9.00

I switched to using this after the one I was using at the time made my skin go orange. Thankfully, this one doesn't! It's lasted me a few months so far (though I don't wear makeup every day), and is really easy to apply. I use it in the F2 shade, and got it from Superdrug. The only negative thing I would say about this is that in hot weather it won't stay on my face no matter what I do, and it is definitely not waterproof whatsoever.

A fun detail - it's even labelled as cruelty free and vegan!

MUA Pro Base Full Coverage Matte Pressed Powder, £2.50

You can also find this in Superdrug. I still don't know what shade I am - I've used both 'translucent' and #120 (pictured) and both appear to work the same on pale skin. This applies pretty fuss-free as it's pressed, though you might want to watch out in case any loose bits get on you. This is pretty good value too, and lasts quite a while.

MUA Eyebrow Pencil, £1

Like the others, this can also be found in Superdrug. I usually end up mass-buying these when they have on offer on, so you end up getting 3 pencils for £2.00! They don't last an awfully long time, but with their price you can't really complain. I use the shade 'blonde', though it's a dark ginger-toned blonde so keep that in mind.

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara, £6.50

This is one of the more expensive products for its size on here, but I'd say it still lasts a long time. I got this from Boots in the shade 'blonde'. You could probably use this in conjunction with the pencils from earlier, though I use this on days where I don't want a full face of makeup but still want to have some sort of eyebrows. It's subtle but effective!

MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter, £3.00

It's worth stating I've had this for ages, and the one on the Superdrug website looks like it's a different colour to this one despite having the same name, so they may have changed the ingredients (though it's still vegan!). This is quite an intense colour, at least when you're very pale, so you don't need much to have an effect.

Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara, £10.50

This mascara is quite pricey, but it's my absolute favourite and lasts a long time! It has the perfect combination of long eyelashes with volume, and lasts really well throughout the day. I often combine this with the eyebrow mascara and face powder mentioned earlier when I really can't be bothered to do 'proper' makeup and it works really well.

Are any of these your favourites, or are there different products you prefer? Let me know!
