Pumpkin Shaped Pizza Rolls

It's nearly halloween! I love anything spooky so jumped at the chance to make one of the best foods, pizza, into a pumpkin!
I based this off the Tesco Magazine recipe, but adapted the ingredients slightly and made it vegan. To keep it simple, these were tomato ones, but you could easily add your favourite vegan cheese or meat substitute if you want.

If you're not feeling the festive vibe and want to make swirls instead, I have another recipe here! This one also has instructions on how to make your own dough if you're feeling fancy 💅

This made 8 palm sized pumpkin rolls, and took just over an hour to make start to finish.

Ingredients:

  • 400g ready made pizza dough (Tesco do one in a rectangle shape for £1.30, it's in the chilled section!)
  • 8 teaspoons of your favourite pasta sauce
  • 3 TBSP of your favourite plant milk (I used oat)
  • A sprinkle of paprika
  • Fresh basil leaves
  •  Dried basil

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C for fan)
2. Cut the pizza dough into 8 equal-sized triangles and seperate
3. Place around a teaspoon of sauce in the centre of the triangle. Sprinkle some basil on top, and then pinch all the sides together to form a ball
4. Using around 1m of string, wrap around the ball of dough (a bit like how you would tie ribbon on a present) until you have 8 equal sized sections between the string
5. Repeat 3 and 4 for all of the dough
6. Place all 8 pumpkins on a baking tray with parchment paper. Mix the paprika with the milk in a bowl and brush over the dough

7. Bake for 15 minutes before turning upside down and baking for a further 10
8. Cut the strings off each pumpkin (you may need to wait until they've cooled down a little).
9. Using either small fresh basil or a chopped large leaf, add the basil to the top of each roll to look like stalks

Happy (early) Halloween!
