Greggs' Vegan Festive Bake Review

It's that time of year where all the Christmas themed foods appear, and this year Greggs have gone above and beyond by making a vegan version of their much loved festive bake!

This vegan festive treat bares the easily identifiable lattice pattern that their other vegan options have, making it a lot easier to differentiate from its non-vegan counterpart. It is described as containing Quorn, sage and onion stuffing balls, a vegan bacon crumb and cranberry sauce.

I was lucky to get the last one in my local Greggs, and microwaved it before I tried it as it was almost stone cold.

I was happy to see large pieces of Quorn in the one I had, as I remember their vegan steak bake (RIP 😔) could sometimes be a bit mushy. The flavour was amazing - really herby and comforting especially after a walk in this horrible weather we're having!

On the other hand, though, I honestly didn't realise there was supposed to be a "vegan bacon crumb" until I found the description to write this post - there wasn't really any sign of it! Also, although the stuffing flavour was well distributed throughout the bake, there were definitely no sign of anything remotely resembling "balls" of stuffing.

The cranberry sauce added a lovely occsional sweet taste, though it was less like 'sauce' and more a couple of whole cranberries. I guess this could be a plus if you're not keen on them as then they're easier to remove.

The verdict? I think this might be my favourite Greggs bake to date! It's full of flavour, soya free and a great balance of savoury and sweet. I just want to know where that bacon crumb has gone!

Have you tried it? What did you think? Let's have a chat in the comments!
