McDonalds McPlant Review

It's finally here! On the 5th January, the vegan McPlant was released in the majority of McDonald's locations across the UK. It may not be their first vegan offering, but it may well be their most exciting!

According to their website, the McPlant is:

A vegan burger made with a juicy plant-based patty co-developed with Beyond Meat® featuring vegan sandwich sauce, ketchup, mustard, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and a vegan alternative to cheese in a sesame seed bun.

This new burger is also certified by the Vegan Society, meaning it is 100% confirmed vegan and cooked seperately from the meat products. You can get it on its own, or with a meal (including fries, fruit or salad) and a drink.

I'm a bit late trying this on the 9th January but I wanted to give it a go! It's also soya free, meaning it won't make me ill either which is a plus.

I ended up getting a meal with the burger (minus tomato, sandwich sauce and pickles because I'm a bit of a wuss) with fries and a coke zero.

It came in a box with bright green detailing with a large 'McPlant' written on the side, which reassured me that it would be hard for them to get it wrong. I didn't get a picture as the burger had pretty much taken itself apart inside the box so I had to reconstruct it!

I actually really enjoyed it! The burger definitely just tasted like a regular Beyond burger, but that isn't a bad thing. The cheese tasted quite "vegan" if you get me, but again this was reassurance I had been given the right food. I can't comment on the other aspects of it as I removed some of the items but as I had it I thought it was great. Obviously there's better burgers out there, but to be in a place as accessible as McDonald's this really is gamechanging for veganism.
