Eating Vegan at Mowgli

In the hunt for a place that catered for both vegans and people with gluten allergies, we ended up going to Mowgli. I had never been before, and searching online we found they did very clearly labelled gluten free and vegan menus (with the gluten free one having some vegan options on it too!) with lots of choices of different dishes.

When we arrived, the person seating us took any allergies really seriously and made sure we had the correct menus, which we appreicated! We were sat on on of their swing tables which were a lot more comfy than they looked, and didn't make it impossible to eat like I was worried about!

Their vegan menu was packed full of different foods to try - and the allergen matrix was included on the next page, so it was really easy to cross reference allergens in dishes. This was really useful as it meant I could really easily avoid soya.

How many dishes should I order at Mowgli?

We found that 3-4 dishes including a carb such as bread or rice was the right amount for us. This is also the size of the vegan school tiffin, and this allows you to try lots of different dishes.

I ordered the Fenugreek Kissed Fries (£6), the Temple Dahl (£5), and the Puri (£3.50 for 2). It's important to note all the dishes come out at different times when they're ready, so you might not get your food at the same time as the rest of your table!

The fries were cubes of fried potato rather than thin & rectangular as you might expect, but they were absolute amazing. They were full of flavour, a little spicy, and what I assume was the Masala sauce had really umami flavour too.

The Fenugreek Kissed Fries

The Temple Dahl was incredibly comforting - not too spicy (and if you didn't eat the chillies on top I don't think it would be spicy at all). It was creamy and also full of flavour - I would say this is the best Dahl I've ever tried!

The Puri was also amazing - they were two little fried breads that went really well with the Dahl. I'm glad I went with these over the rice!

A "Mowgli Twister" mocktail

They also had a wide range of drinks - from your standard soft drinks to a huge range of alcoholic wines, beers and cocktails. I don't really drink so I was really excited by their Mocktail menu! I tried the Mowgli Twister which was "pineapple juice, raspberry puree and sugar syrup with fresh mint leaves and lime". As with the rest of their food, it was full of flavour and the sweetness and fruitiness really complemented the food well.

Overall, I really enjoyed the experience of eating at Mowgli. The food was great, they were really knowledgable of dietry requirements and allergies, and the atmopshere was really cozy (and in my opinion as a neurodivergent person, really ND friendly too). I can't wait to go back and try some of their other dishes 😊
