Releases to look out for this Veganuary

Happy 2023 everyone! Veganuary is finally upon us, which is where a lot of people give up animal products for the month of January (and often longer term too as people enjoy it so much!) This means a lot of places release new vegan food items in January and it can be hard to keep track of them all. As of today, January 1st, this is a list of some of the places that have announced new vegan products, but this could well increase by the end of the month.

Heinz Vegan Sausages and Beans / Creamy Tomato Soup

This Veganuary Heinz have brought out two long-awaited favourites as a vegan version: Vegan Sausage and Beans and Creamy Tomato Soup. I can’t find an ingredient list for either online (though they have both been sighted in shops!) but it looks like the vegan sausages are made from wheat protein. The creamy tomato soup looks to mimic the old favourite Cream of Tomato soup, so fingers crossed that Heinz have done a good job!

Marks and Spencers Plant Kitchen Range

Marks and Spencer’s Plant Kitchen range has already been out for a while, but the supermarket recently teased new items would be joining the family with this photo. Some pictured have been in the range for some time, but some new items that have been spotted include raspberry ripple ice cream, a vegan chicken and chorizo sandwich and multiple cakes.

Vegan Toad In The Hole, ASDA

I can’t find anything from ASDA or The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co that confirms the release of this product, but people in the vegan community have spotted an amazing vegan toad in the hole in ASDA supermarkets. I’m not sure what the sausages are made out of as I can’t find an ingredient list, but as soon as I have one I’ll update with any allergens ☺️. This is really exciting as I know it was on many people’s ‘vegan bucket lists’!

A new sandwich and wrap from Boots

A pharmacy might not be the first place you’d think to look for vegan food, but Boots have a pretty good track record for vegan food. This year they have brought out a Plant Based No Hog Roast Sandwich and a Tikka wrap. They’re marked limited edition though so try one while you can!

(On a separate note, Boots also sell a lot of really cool vegan chocolate near their meal deal section, so if you’re new to veganism and missing some of your favourites then have a look - they quite often have vegan chocolate buttons, chocolate peanuts, and vegan ‘smarties’!)

Burger King ‘Bakon’

Photo: Burger King UK

For Veganuary, Burger King have partnered with vegan bacon brand La Vie to bring vegan bacon to their plant based burgers. However, please be aware that their Plant Based Whooper is PLANT BASED and NOT vegan (and they do not label it vegan for this reason) as it is cooked with the meat burgers and definitely has cross contamination. If that doesn’t bother you, go ahead, but just a warning in case you’re not aware! The Vegan Royale (chicken-style) burger is 100% vegan and prepared separately from the meat, as is the vegan bacon, so that’s all good to go.

McDonald’s Double McPlant

Maybe this doesn’t entirely count as a “new” release, but McDonald’s have added a Double McPlant to the menu! This is available on its own or as part of a meal. At least now you’ll be able to order a double one rather than having to build your own out of 2 burgers!

What are you most looking forward to this Vegnauary? Let me know down in the comments 😊
