Gregg’s Spicy Veg Curry Bake Review

This year, Greggs deviated away from their popular vegan version of their famous Festive Bake, and instead released a new savoury bake to their lineup: The Spicy Veg Curry Bake!

This bake has the classic vegan lattice pastry that can be found on all of their plant-based products, and is filled with chickpeas, veggies and rice in a curry sauce. It replaced the Vegan Mexican Chicken bake, as Greggs usually only have one vegan bake alongside their Quorn Vegan Sausage Roll.

I tried this for lunch one day to see if it really could replace the Vegan Festive Bake.

The pastry is filled with a spicy vegetable chickpea curry

If I’m honest, this was a lot better than I expected. It’s definitely not ‘festive’ by any stretch of the imagination, but it was nice and a bit different to other vegan pastries that are available. It had a good mixture of chickpeas and veggies, and the sauce had a lot of flavour while also being a little bit creamy. It wasn’t painfully spicy, but it was a little bit tongue tingling. I was a bit worried about it containing parsnips, as I’m not a fan, but I didn’t notice them in this at all.

My final verdict: It’s a good product, and a nice change for anyone that doesn’t like meat substitutes (this one is also soya free unlike the Turkey-free baguette, the bean & vegan sausage & cheese melt and the vegan Mexican Chicken bake). It’s just a shame it wasn’t more Christmassy.
